PAPR Reduction Based on FrFT in OFDM Systems

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a widely used modulation scheme for wireless communications. However, it suffers from a high PAPR(Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) problem, which de-grades system performance and power. The multicarrier system based on Fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) has advantages over an OFDM system in performance of PAPR. In this paper, we have derived precise expressions for the PAPR of the FrFT-OFDM scheme and the conventional OFDM scheme. We have also verified these expressions by simulation, which provides an effective proof for the lower PAPR of FrFT-OFDM system. Fur-thermore, compared to OFDM system, PAPR reduction technique such as Iterative clipping and filtering (ICF) also apply to FRFT-OFDM system.
