Quantitative Analysis of Tomato Prices in Maharashtra and Gujarat

Tomatois being produced in India at a very large scale. It is observed that much of the production of tomato are being wasted in the on-season time and it is also rising with a very high price amount at the off-season duration. If it could be observed precisely the production pattern of the tomato, the both the conditions could be assuaged up to a remarkable stage. The aim of undertaken study is to observe the variability pattern of tomato prices in Maharashtra and Gujarat state with respect to time and location. In this paper we have applied basic visualization techniques and statistical time series techniques that is, seasonal ARIMA to study the tomato prices variation (minimum price, maximum price, modal price) w.r.t year, month or particular season, district etc., and further applied the ADF (Augmented Dickey Fuller) and KPSS (Kwiatkowski-Phillips-Schmidt-Shin (KPSS)tests along with ACF (Autocorrelation function) and PACF (partial autocorrelation function) approaches to estimate the performances of the model.
