Multi-dimensional Quantitative Assessment Method for Flexibility of Large-scale Hydropower and New Energy Clusters

The volatility and uncertainty of new energy sources and the different output characteristics of hydropower in the flat and dry periods impose higher requirements on the flexible regulation capability of large-scale hydropower and new energy clusters. To quantitatively assess the flexible regulation capability of the cluster, this paper proposes a multi-dimensional quantitative assessment method for flexibility of large-scale hydropower and new energy clusters. Considering the impact of new energy and hydropower output characteristics on cluster flexibility, the quantitative assessment indicators for flexibility are constructed based on multiple dimensions such as regulation speed, regulation range and regulation direction. Then a multi-dimensional quantitative assessment method for the flexibility of large-scale hydropower and new energy clusters is proposed based on Monte Carlo simulation and economic scheduling model. The proposed method can effectively characterize the volatility and uncertainty of new energy sources and the output characteristics of hydropower in different periods. Finally, simulation for the large-scale hydropower and new energy clusters in the middle and lower reaches of the Yalong River Basin validates the effectiveness of the multi-dimensional quantitative assessment method for the flexibility. Moreover, the impact of different factors on flexibility indicators was quantitatively investigated.
