Speed Control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor for Flywheel Energy Storage Based on Improved Self Disturbance Rejection Control

Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) can be used as driving motors for flywheel energy storage systems(FESS) because of their exceptional torque and power density characteristics. Accurate speed control is crucial for PMSM with large moment of inertia. This article proposes an improved Active Disturbance Rejection Control (ADRC) strategy. Improved ADRC utilizes a novel smooth nonlinear xfal function to improve the State Extended Observer (ESO), addressing the shortcomings of low flexibility and unsatisfactory disturbance suppression in ADRC, and further improving the speed performance of PMSM. A speed control platform for PMSM was built on the MATLAB/Simulink platform, and compared with sliding mode control, fuzzy control, and ADRC methods. In the experimental results, the speed response of the improved ADRC is the fastest, and the overshoot is reduced from 9.42% to 2.08% compared with the conventional ADRC, and the squared integral error of the electromagnetic torque is also the lowest, which proves the stability of the improved ADRC.
