A Review on Prognosis and Remaining Useful Life Estimation of Electrical Drives & Machines

This paper will anthologize the work done in the field of condition monitoring in general and prognosis and Remaining Useful Life (RUL) estimation of electric drives/machines in particular since last few years. It will briefly present the general prognosis procedure, different types of prognosis techniques and their comparative study inclusively the work done by researchers from academia and industries. Now a days Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) is also getting attention in industries, with this aspect also prognosis in general or with the propagation of fault becomes vital. The CBM is comprised with prognosis strategy as the next step to the fault diagnosis. However, the fault diagnosis is useful in maintenance scheduling, the study of fault propagation and life estimation using prognostics techniques can allow felicitous diminution of the fault subsequently will increase reliability of the machine. It is important in continuous health monitoring, timely maintenance scheduling, risk of failure analysis and remaining life prediction. The study present here will be helpful to the researchers working in prognosis and RUL estimation of electrical drives and machines. There are several papers presenting reviews but this paper provides the literature summary according to the prognosis techniques and compiles them in a common section. In addition, a common conclusive table is also provided invoking the key features, merits and demerits of all the techniques available.
