Surface Wave Propagation Enhancement and Control Using Metasurfaces Platforms

This paper proposes a novel design for a wireless communication system that uses planar surface wave excitation. The design includes a wideband, low-profile quasi-rectangular aperture with a compact Co-planar wave guide surface wave launcher. The study compares surface wave propagation on a reactive plane platform with four different metasurface platforms, and the proposed design enhances high-efficiency surface wave propagation along various meta-surfaces. The system provides a wide bandwidth of 21GHz to 30GHz with low return loss below -10dB for millimeter-wave frequencies between 20 and 30GHz, designed for 5G communication systems.
