GWO Assisted MPPT Tracking of PV System with SPWM Inverter

Renewable energy sources are becoming more and more important to meet the growing demand for electricity and also maintaining reliability in the electrical system. Solar energy is unique among renewable energy sources as it is abundant and clean. The goal of this research is to harvest as much electricity as possible from a solar energy system. To do this, the focus will be on investigating maximum power point tracking (MPPT) strategies that are known to improve the effectiveness and performance of solar Photo Voltaic (PV) systems. The MPPT that was designed utilizing Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) methodologies is being compared to the standard Perturb and observe (P&O) method. The performance of optimized MPPT is compared and GWO based MPPT stands out to be efficiently controlling the power. Furthermore, a DC-DC boost converter receives the PV output power. The DC obtained is converted to AC using a bipolar Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) based H bridge type inverter. The algorithms are tested under different weather conditions. Entire work is simulated and verified using MATLAB/Simulink.
