Controlling the Antenna Signal Fluctuations by Combining the RF-Peak Detector and Real Impedance Mismatch

The operational conditions of mobile phones are subject to constant fluctuations collected to varying touching situation and the presence of nearby objects. The impedance of the antenna exhibits changes as a consequence.The simultaneous occurrence of a change in link degree and a higher standing wave ratio necessitates using strapping power amplifier implementations, consequently resulting in reduced efficiency. This paper introduces a novel automated antenna tuner system designed for handheld applications. The system incorporates 2 series reactance and three straightforward ratio frequency RF-peak detectors to effectively detect and address reactive and fundamental impedance mismatches. The control loop necessitates the utilization of low-frequency electronics, resulting in its cost-effectiveness, energy efficiency, and relatively straightforward integration. The measurements conducted on the demonstrator system indicate that the observed behaviour of the Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) remains within acceptable parameters up to a value of 15.
