Fall Detection and Efficiency Enhancement via Wearable Technology

Thread In Motion is a company producing technology and pursuing innovation and is well known for its smart gloves. The main purpose of the company products is to combine humans and technology instead of replacing humans altogether, this way human-based mistakes are minimized, and the capabilities of the users are enhanced. The smart glove consists of two main parts, a device and a glove with a conductive thread inside. The said device includes different electronic and mechanical parts which are perfectly stabilized on a unique type of textile fabric designed considering human physiology. The goal of Thread In Motion is to integrate cutting-edge technologies into the smart glove and offer solutions for users in different industries. One of the innovative projects of the company is capturing and analyzing human motions using a combination of Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensors and Machine Learning Algorithms. The biggest challenge has been to differentiate between the fall of the device and the fall of a user which was achieved in this project. The current physical movements of the user are perfectly monitored and analyzed. This way it is planned to make it possible to develop an alarm system in case of a health emergency with a “man-down” feature and increase efficiency in workplaces such as warehouses. Considering IMU's integration into the device, this project offers an extra opportunity to increase the chance of survival and/or reduce the risk of permanent injury for the users and reduce human-based mistakes. This talk will focus on IMU sensors and their combined usage with Machine Learning Algorithms.
