Sensor Placement for Perfusion Parameters Estimation in Feet

There is no consensus on where perfusion parameters should be measured using plethysmography sensors in the lower limb. In this work, we evaluate the correlation between sensors located in four different positions according to the angiosome model. We evaluated an occlusion protocol to induce changes in the levels of oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin. We gathered data from 16 healthy participants. We found a strong Pearson correlation (r>0.8) between a sensor located in the heel and the measurements from the medial dorsal and hallux toe. The results could be used to assess the best sensor placement in cases where the location of the sensor is restricted.
