Interactive PV-SAPF with Backstepping Controller for Power Quality Improvement

To ensure the smooth transmission and distribution of electric power, power converters are indispensable, relying on semiconductor switches. However, the widespread utilization of these converters leads to the dissemination of harmonic contamination across the grid, adversely affecting both grid-connected equipment and the primary power source. This study delves into the integration of an interactive shunt active power filter (SAPF) with a Photovoltaic (PV) source through a two-stage energy system utilizing a DC-DC boost converter. Employing the instantaneous p-q theory and Backstepping controllers, the system aims to improve power quality by reducing total harmonic distortion (THD) to acceptable levels and injecting harvested PV power into the grid. Validation of the proposed system’s performance is conducted through simulation using the Matlab/SIMULINK environment.
