Design and Optimization of Microstrip Patch Antenna using Ant Colony Optimization

This paper presents the exploitation of the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm in the design of a microstrip patch antenna (MPA) for WiMAX applications. The ACO algorithm is used to design a new antenna with an innovative shape in order to enhance its performance. In this paper, the ACO algorithm is combined with HFSS to be applied to design a microstrip patch antenna. The design process is automatic. The shape of the proposed antenna is very particular. It is printed on an FR4 epoxy substrate with a thickness of 0.5 mm and a permittivity of 4.4. The antenna presents an S
