Heuristic Theoretical Modelling of Laser Induced Plasma Filament Antenna

This paper presents the heuristic theoretical modelling of a novel antenna namely the Laser-Induced-Plasma-Filament (LIPF) antenna. In high-intensity pulsed laser-plasma interaction, the electrons are ponderomotively pushed to the top/bottom edges of the filament formed by the propagation of the laser pulse in the medium. Thus, the resultant filament is akin to a Perfect Electric Conductor (PEC) with electrons on its skin/edge(s). Electro-Magnetic (EM) coupling modulates the electrons on the filament's skin/edge(s) giving rise to EM radiations. While experimental work on LIPF antenna is underway, heuristic theoretical modelling presented in this paper serves as a good introduction into the physics, concepts such as modes propagating in the LIPF antenna, radiation pattern, and other underlying phenomena that governs the LIPF antenna.
