Speed-Increasing Type Reluctance Vernier Machine

In this paper, we proposed a novel motor called speed-increasing type Vernier motor (SIVM). The proposed motor has a feature that the rotor rotates faster than the rotating magnetic field by setting the number of rotor salient poles smaller than the number of winding poles. In addition, an analytical method was proposed for this motor using an equivalent salient rotor and a coordinate system synchronized with the equivalent rotor. Furthermore, the tests conducted on a prototype machine demonstrate the following two findings: First, by utilizing the proposed analysis method, vector control can be applied to the speed-increasing type Vernier motor is possible in the same manner as that of a general synchronous motor. Second, torque can be expressed by multiplying the torque formula of a conventional synchronous reluctance motor by a coefficient.
