A New Hybrid Control for Zero Voltage Switching Based on High Frequency Partial Power Buck-Boost Converter

This paper focuses on the development of a partial power buck-boost converter designed to accommodate a wide input voltage range, spanning from 38 V to 72 V DC, and produce a fixed output voltage of 107 V DC. This converter is intended for use in data center applications and is configured to deliver 1.2 kW of power. The primary objective of this study is to achieve the highest possible efficiency for the converter. To attain this goal, we conduct an efficiency comparison among different control strategies aimed at achieving Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS). These strategies are thoroughly analyzed and simulated using a comprehensive loss model. Notably, a novel hybrid control strategy is introduced, demonstrating significant advantages in terms of power density when compared to Critical Conduction Mode (CRM) control, and also delivering efficiency benefits in comparison to Fix-Frequency control. Furthermore, the research findings are substantiated through practical experimentation involving a two-phase synchronous buck-boost converter prototype.
