Sensor Technologies in Industrial Incinerators - A Review

The incinerator plays an important role in waste management. The sensors are used to optimize the incineration process and improve the efficiency of the incinerator. This review paper aims to discuss different types of sensors used in incinerators to measure temperature during combustion, pressure, and gas composition. The choice of sensors will depend on several factors, based on which a sensor must be employed. This paper will discuss different sensors in different conditions and aim to provide the drawbacks and benefits of those sensors. To detect carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO₂), heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Cr, and Pb), and gases (He, N, and Ar), sensors that have been used have been studied and discussed. The improvement of the sensors used in incinerators will provide an effective method of waste incineration, operation, and design of incinerators and increase the waste management process.
