Exploring the Role of Deep Learning in Coconut Palm Diseases and Detecting Red Palm Weevil in Early Stage Amidst Advances and Challenges —a Review

The RPW(Red Palm Weevil) is commonly regarded as the most harmful insect pest to palm trees worldwide. Larvae of the RPW (Red Palm Weevil)consume the apical growth point of the tree, severely affect the tissues, and damage the structure of the trunk. By RPW, injury to the palm tree may present: (1) The trunk and base of the fronds develop tunnels. (2) Because of the larvae feeding inside, infected trees make “gnawing” noises. (3) Sticky liquids drip through the tunnel. The finding of the weevil is a key feature in saving the tree from extensive harm and loss. Since the detection and control of conventional techniques are costly and difficult to maintain with proper time management, innovative ideas are required. The proposed work is a smart, environmentally friendly approach to red palm weevil management approach. The system, based on multiple sensor fusion, is to analyze the infested signal and process it. It wirelessly communicates the infested status to the owner for further prevention measures. The key objective is to develop a detection system by examining the Red Palm weevil in its larval stage by its sound.
