A Technical Implementation of Solar Based Charger for Electric Powered Vehicles

Renewable energy extraction and electric vehicle use have made cleaner transportation possible. Electric vehicles’ battery charging is a problem nowadays. We can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels by charging EV batteries using solar energy. The solar panel’s current and voltage fluctuate with the weather. Electric vehicles need fast battery charging. Charging times may be reduced when high currents and voltages are used. However, charging at excessive current or voltage may damage the battery. Battery safety requires careful consideration of charging methods in order to control the power input without overcharging or undercharging. EV batteries may be charged using constant voltage, constant current or the Constant Current Constant Voltage technique. There are several benefits when utilizing these methods instead of other approaches of charging EV batteries. In this work, a solar-powered charger specifically for EVs is designed. The system is completely simulated in MATLAB’s SIMULINK environment.
