Challenges in Implementing Power Losses Model for an Inverter in an EV Traction Emulation System

In this paper, the total power losses of the inverter in an Electrical Vehicle (EV) traction emulation system are investigated under three different implementation methods. The first method involves implementing the power losses model within a subsystem constructed under the dSPACE processor board DS6001, using the general Simulink platform. The second method entails implementing the model within a subsystem built on the dSPACE FPGA board DS6601 platform. In the third method, the model is implemented within a control subsystem integrated into DS6001 but triggered with switching frequency. The simulation results of each method are presented and compared accordingly. Hardware results are also provided to verify the optimised method. The advantages and limitations of each implementation method are discussed. Finally, suggestions are proposed to give guidance to researchers who need to work on model development in hardware-in-loop (HIL) platforms.
