Dual Active Bridge Converter's inherent soft switching Steady-State Analysis with Single and Dual Phase Shift Modulation

Dual (DAB) active bridge converter design has received a lot of attention lately as a power conditioning device, particularly for DC microgrids and EV charging infrastructure. This is primarily because DAB offers isolated DC-DC power conversion and bidirectional (BDC) power flow capabilities, two additional advantages over conventional converters. Any application using a DAB converter must have a thorough grasp of state-of-the-art modulation methods in order to regulate power flow. This article provides an example of a steady-state converter analysis for both dual-phase shift (DPS) and singlephase shift (SPS) modulation methods. Both mathematical and graphical representations of the phase displacement/shift patterns and their relationship to various electrical factors are provided. Results of close-loop simulations for both approaches are shown for a 8 kW system operating in boost mode at 1000 V/400 V. Every voltage and current waveform that was shown had a character that matched the findings found in earlier research.
