Modeling and Analysis of Actively-Damped DC-DC Boost Converter with Constant Power Load

Power electronics-based power systems Nowadays are of the Direct Current type and include more than one converter systems rather than a single-converter-type system. The stability of multi-converter power electronic systems is an important issue. Research has been done in this field, and several methods have been proposed to overcome the problem. One of the basic methods is to include the damping to the output LC filter of the converter. In the DC microgrid, point of load (POL) converters regulate their output voltages. These converters behave as constant power loads (CPLs) for the feeder converter which poses the stability issue to the system. In this paper damping methods namely passive damping and active damping has been discussed. Also, the small-signal model of the actively-damped converter with CPL with the eigenvalue plot indicating the reason for instability is presented along with the simulation result in LT-Spice software by incorporating the load current and reference voltage variations.
