Case study on improving the energy-saving effect of power transformers based on reactive power compensation algorithm

Currently, both domestic and foreign high and low voltage substation power transformers generate active and reactive power losses during operation. The amount of reactive power compensation for power transformers affects the load loss rate and efficiency of the transformer to a certain extent. Provide reactive power compensation to improve load power factor, stabilize load rate, improve transformer efficiency, and achieve energy-saving effects. The range of reactive power compensation values has always been a topic of discussion in the power industry. In this paper, the calculation method of transformer load rate and long-term power loss is used to calculate the relationship between the three, and MATLAB is used to deduce. Through comparative observation of actual data, it is found that the transformer efficiency has the optimal range. The load rate values of the power transformer with the lowest load loss rate are mostly between (0.5-0.6). Based on example data calculation and verification, providing 50% to 100% reactive power compensation is more energy-saving when the transformer efficiency exceeds 20%. This analysis and calculation method provides a reference for future research on energy conservation of power transformers, and also provides certain data support for energy conservation and environmental protection of power.
