Induction Motor Performance Improvement Through SPRS Using Multilevel Inverter

This research paper presents the effectiveness of induction motor with wound rotor drive that employs a slip power recovery scheme (SPRS) using a five-level inverter and buck-boost chopper and LC filter is being used. Capacitor clamped inverter using insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) and a buck-boost chopper control approach employing metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) as switching devices with an LC filter. A mathematical model for 2hp, 400V, 50Hz, 1440 rpm induction motor drive (IMD) has been simulated in MATLAB environment. Total harmonic distortion (THD) and power factor of supply are taken as performance parameters for the analysis. The suggested technique is unique because, it implements the SPRS simulation model utilizing a five-level inverter and a buck-boost chopper. The simulation results suggest that a five-level inverter with chopper control and an LC filter reduces THD, as a result power quality of system gets improved.
