Performance Analysis of Five-Phase System for Various Bus-Clamping Space Vector Based Pulse Width Modulation Methods

The area of multiple phase systems has substantially grown as they have the greatest power density. To operate these systems effectively, requires different modulation techniques in various loading conditions. This paper deals with five-phase voltage source inverter and their modulation techniques in space vector based approach. By utilizing small, medium, and large space vectors, various pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques can be applied, including the conventional space vector PWM (CSVPWM), the discontinuous PWM and bus-clamping PWM (BCPWM). This BCPWM results in lower harmonic distortion than CSVPWM and this trend is same in case of switching energy loss. But switching energy loss in BCPWM is a strong function of power factor. The proposed technique is simulated and results are analyzed.
