Broadband 2-Element Terminal MIMO Antenna with Bottom Decoupling Network and Lumped Elements

This work reports a broadband terminal MIMO antenna with electromagnetic decoupling scheme. The MIMO antenna consists of two monopole antennas. Two LC resonators are separately loaded at the feeding ports of the monopole antennas to generate resonance. A π-shaped decoupling patch is back loaded and connected with the monopole antennas with metallic vias. Then, the monopole antennas are inductively coupled with metallic vias and capacitively coupled through the substrate. Thus, two individual magnetic and electric decoupling paths are generated to improving the isolation between the monopole antennas. To validate the design concept, simulations were conducted on the prototype. The simulation results show that the proposed MIMO antenna has a return loss better than 10dB and an isolation of 16.6dB in the frequency range of 3.6GHz to 4.25GHz. Meanwhile, the two antennas have opposite radiation directions within the operating frequency band.
