Coding Metasurface Design for Radar Corss Section Reduction Using 1-Bit Fourier Phase Distribution

In this paper, the design of 1-bit coding metasurface for radar cross section reduction (RCSR) is designed. The 1-bit coding metasurface composed by two anisotropic unit cells with rotational symmetry to represent the coding states 0° (0-bit) and 180° (1-bit). The unit cell are designed based on geometric phase theory to reduce the sensitivity of the metasurface to the polarization of the incident radar waves. The 1 -bit metasurface composed by $30 \times 30$ unit cells and occupied an area of $150 \times 150\times 2 \mathrm{~mm}^{3}$. A 1-bit Fourier phase distribution which is calculated using MATLAB code based on Fourier phase formula is introduced at all unit cells composing the 1-bit metasurface. The simulated results show that the proposed 1-bit coding metasurface can achieve diffused scattering patterns with reduced RCS. Greater than 10 dB of RCSR is guaranteed from 10 to 24 GHz. The presented 1-bit coding metasurface with Fourier phase distribution is expected to have potential applications in in RCS reduction, low-scattering, and stealth applications.
