A Half-Dual Bridge Resonant DC/DC Converter with CLC-Type Resonant Network

Conventional dual active bridge (DAB) converters suffer from high conduction losses due to high backflow power. A half-dual bridge resonant DC/DC converter (H-DBRC) is proposed in this paper to reduce the conduction loss and improve overall efficiency. The converter comprises a full bridge and a half bridge connected through a CLC resonant network, which can reduce the component cost and improve power density. In synergy with the extended phase-shift (EPS) modulation, the converter can eliminate backflow power and achieve unity-power-factor (UPF) operation, which greatly reduces the conduction losses and improves the efficiency. Steady-state analysis of the converter is performed using multiple-harmonies-approximation (MHA) method. A design example based on the analysis results is presented and then verified through both software simulation and prototype experiments.
