Miniaturization Microstrip Antenna for WPT Implantable Antenna by Using Fractal and DGS Techniques

The development of microstrip antenna technology is rapid. One of the microstrip antenna is to support WPT (Wireless Power Transfer) technology as an implantable antenna. As an implantable WPT antenna, unique specifications such as frequency, dimensions, and materials are required. ISM has set the implantable WPT frequency standard at 2.4-2.5 GHz with the most diminutive possible antenna dimensions not to endanger the patient. This research offers an antenna design with fractal and DGS miniaturization techniques. The use of fractals and DGS aims to make the dimensions of the antenna small, but the performance remains good (VSWR and Return Loss). After design and simulation, it is found that the antenna size is reduced by 75% compared to the conventional antenna with VSWR close to 1 and return loss of −61.598. This shows that this technique can be used in the antenna miniaturization process.
