Circular patch impinged 4×4 patch metasurface loaded, Dual polarized, Wide-band antenna

This paper presents a wideband, miniaturized meta-surface loaded, dual-polarized antenna for planar array applications. A novel square and circular patch meshed metasurface is devised to enhance the edge length and minimize the surface area to $0.57\lambda_{0}\times 0.57\lambda_{0}$. The metasurface is analyzed to extract the modes and effective constitutive parameters. The antenna provides a massive reflection bandwidth of 38% (4.25 GHz to 6.25 GHz) in both the polarization. Two U-shaped orthogonal traces are utilized to facilitate dual-polarized feeding scheme. It is shown that by introducing two layered feeding scheme, the isolation level has increased from 10 dB to 37 dB. The antenna achieves 6.5 dBi to 10.7 dBi gain within operational band for both the polarization with average radiation efficiency of 98%. The proposed antenna holds significant promise for practical applications in wireless communication and the remote sensing domain.
