High Power RF & Microwave Tube based heating systems at IPR and its applications to Plasma

The high Power RF and Microwave systems are used to carry out plasma heating experiments on tokamaks SST1 and Aditya-U. A 35-65 MHz frequency tunable tetrode based RF system capable to deliver 1.5 MW power has been commissioned successfully on dummy load and the source has been integrated with the ion cyclotron resonance heating (ICRH) system for SST-1 Tokamak. A 3.7GHz Klystron based heating system is employed to carry out current drive experiments on SST-1 and Aditya-U. Several experiments have been carried out with lower hybrid current drive and in SST-1 maximum 0.65s long plasma shot is achieved with LHCD. A 42GHz Gyrotron based ECRH system has been commissioned on tokamaks SST-1 and Aditya-U and several experiments related to plasma breakdown and heating have been carried out in both the tokamaks. One more high power source 170 GHz-1MW CW Gyrotron has been commissioned successfully on the dummy load, this system confirms the ITER relevant performance and also the capability to test the megawatt level microwave sources at IPR.
