A Review on Detection of Solar PV Panels Failures Using Image Processing Techniques

Solar power is widely acknowledged as an energy source that is both globally recognized and environmentally friendly. This makes it an appealing choice when compared to forms of energy. However one significant challenge lies in identifying faults within photovoltaic (PV) modules. The monitoring and detection of panel conditions, in scale solar power plants can be quite intricate and burdensome. Those who come within this category of researchers are working hard so that faults on PV panels may be identified through methods based on image processing. Modern diagnostic tools can detect a wide range of defects, with the settings changing based on the type of damage being looked at. These problems include impacts on surface-level of module, shadows, exterior deposition of dirt and internal issues in connection with PV system itself. Image processing techniques and imaging technologies prove to be highly effective in identifying and analyzing such damages. This review investigates a study that uses thermal imaging system to detect panels. The identification of faults in the obtained images through applying image processing techniques is analyzed in depth, with a view towards greater understanding on methods used for damage detection so as to guarantee safety and effectiveness of usage of solar systems.
