Multi - Verse Optimizer Based Selective Harmonic Elimination with Optimal dc Source for Multilevel Inverters

In this paper, multi-verse optimizer (MVO) based selective harmonic elimination (SHE) technique is proposed for multilevel inverters. The SHE technique facilitates low switching frequency and therefore, low switching losses in inverter. Instead of solving conventional nonlinear transcendental trigonometric equations, MOV based SHE-pulse width modulation (SHE-PWM) attempts to acquire optimized switching angles by significantly reduced mathematical efforts. In addition to switching angles, dc source voltage is also optimized in SHE-pulse amplitude modulation (SHE-PAM). It eliminates extra harmonic from output voltage of inverter enabling increased degree of freedom and therefore, reduced total harmonic distortion. A simulation study has been carried out for seven-level inverter in MATLAB/Simulink environment to validate the MOV based SHE-PWM and SHE-PAM techniques. The proposed work is also validated for seven-level inverter by carried out experimental study.
