Coupled Energy Systems Operation Through MINLP Framework Considering Systems Constraints and Demand Response

Passing through the conventional power system to an environment-friendly one causes increasing penetration of renewable energy resources (RESs). On the other hand, increasing penetration of RESs jeopardizes the power system's reliability. Gas turbine (GT) features, such as high efficiency, compact design, and fast ramping rate, make it suitable for adjusting load and generation unbalancing. Hence, the uncertainty of the generated power of RESs is transferred to the natural gas grid. In this regard, Lack of supervision on the operation of both grids causes a decrease in the security of the natural gas network. In this regard, the simultaneous operation of electricity and natural gas systems has great importance. This paper proposes a novel framework to integrate the operation of natural gas and electricity systems considering demand response, AC power flow, and natural gas steady-state model. The simulation results indicate that using the presented method simultaneously reduces the total payment cost of the microgrids (MGs) through participating in the demand response (DR) program and improves the distribution grid nodes' voltage via using the natural gas grid considering its constraint, nodes' gas pressure.
