High coercivity Nd-Fe-B sintered magnet containing vanadium with new microstructure

It is shown experimentally that an addition of a large amount of refractory elements, especially vanadium, in combination with a proper amount of boron is very effective in enhancing the coercivity of sintered Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets. A magnet consisting of Nd/sub 16/Fe/sub 72/V/sub 4/B/sub 8/ which has a coercivity as high as 1.38 MA/m consists of three phases, Nd/sub 2/Fe/sub 14/B, an Nd-rich phase, and V/sub 2/FeB/sub 2/, instead of Nd/sub 1.1/Fe/sub 4/B/sub 4/ which is contained in conventional Nd-Fe-B magnets.<
