Mobile Positioning for Smart Vehicles Based on Signal Periodicity

In urban vehicular scenarios, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) can not provide satisfied localization accuracy. To solve the problem, we proposes to achieve vehicle self-localization with periodic signal transmitted from roadside anchor. Traditional such localization strategy require antenna array equipment or cooperative anchors. In this paper, we utilize the arrival time of periodic beacons sent by merely single anchor in conjunction with velocity information for self-localization. Taking the presence of anchor position error and measurement noise into consideration, a closed form positioning algorithm is provided. The proposed method demonstrates good self-localization accuracy while keeping low complexity. Moreover, it is featured by ease of application for avoiding synchronization or communication between anchors. Simulation examples confirm its effectiveness.
