A Semi-flexible Conformal Beam Scanning Broadband Wearable Antenna Array for Radar Application

A semi-flexible conformal beam scanning broadband wearable antenna (SFCBSWA) is a type of antenna designed to be worn on the body that can operate over a wide range of frequencies and has the capability to electronically steer its radiation pattern in different directions. In this article, semi flexible conformal beam scanning wearable antenna array (SFCBSWA) is proposed to fulfil the defense need in X-band applications centered at 10 GHz on a cylindrical structure able to perform circumferential beam steering over +/− 30

while maintaining gain optimally. Generally, SFCBSWA is made of micro strip patch antennas due to their advantages of light weight and low profile. Conformal arrays can be utilized for scanning a wide range. The antenna geometry is printed on RT5880 substrate having dielectric constant 2.2 and thickness of 2.04 mm. The overall dimension of proposed SFCBSWA is $90 \times 31.60 \times 2.04$ mm3 & it is excited with inset feed to achieve −10 dB impedance bandwidth of 1.3 GHz (9.1–10.4GHz). Further it is conformed at a radius of 200mm of a cylindrical surface. The radiation efficiency is maintained above 90% throughout in band of interest whereas the gain is almost 12.4 dB at 10 GHz.
