Effects of longitudinal currents and torsion on the magnetization processes in amorphous wires

The effects of longitudinal currents and torsion on the magnetization process of positive, negative, and nearly zero magnetostrictive Co- and Fe-based amorphous wires were studied. With a DC current flowing through the wire, a shift in the bistable magnetic response was observed which was dependent on the sign of the magnetostriction. The well-known bistable magnetic switching character was also observed in inverse Wiedemann effect (IWE) studies of these wires. It is concluded that the observed effects appear to be quite promising for applications in sensors and in a wide range of new active and passive elements.<
