Revolutionizing Robotics: A Scalable and Versatile Mobile Robotic Arm for Modrn Applications

In response to the growing demand, warehouse sizes are increasing, posing challenges for manual and semi-automatic storage and retrieval systems. While static programmable robotic arms have been used extensively, they have limitations in the work envelope, reliance on wired accessories, and difficulty in relocation. To address these challenges, this paper introduces a 3D-printed, wirelessly operated 5-DOF mobile robotic arm with AI capabilities. The arm, featuring 5 revolute joints and 6 servo motors, is lightweight yet structurally robust, printed with ABS filament using the Fused Deposition Method for its high tensile and compressive strength. Mounted on a mobile platform, the arm facilitates pick-and-place tasks across the facility. The mobile platform, equipped with sensors, ensures situational awareness and can operate in surveillance mode, utilizing deep learning for facility supervision, and monitoring temperature, humidity, and harmful gas levels. The entire system can be wirelessly accessed, controlled, and automated via a webpage over the internet or a local network. Overcoming challenges faced by static robotic arms, this versatile prototype finds applications in handling hazardous objects, navigating treacherous environments, as well as surveillance and monitoring.
