Design. Development and Real- Time Implementation of Torque and Speed Controller for PMSM FOC Drive System

Literature is rich in many control strategies for optimizing permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) based drive systems, namely, V/f, field oriented control (FOC), and direct torque control (DTC). The main challenge in implementing these strategies is design of appropriate controllers which can not only provide fast response but also aid stable performance of the system. This paper presents design and development of torque and speed proportional integral (PI) controllers for controlling of PMSM. The performance of the designed controllers is studied in MATLAB/Simulink. The speed controller is responsible for maintaining and regulating the speed at reference value within 0.02s when load is applied which depicts the controller response is fast. Further, to evaluate the efficacy of the designed controllers in controlling an actual motor, hardware implementation was done with texas instrument (TI) launchpad F28069M in code composer studio (CCS) software. Results of simulations and observations from hardware implementation are elaborated in this paper.
