An Interactive and Economical Embedded Braille Machine for the Visually Challenged People

This paper addresses the pressing global issue of visual impairment by introducing an interactive Braille device designed to enhance the quality of life for visually impaired individuals. The alarming statistic of a person going blind every five seconds underscores the urgency of providing effective solutions. Visually impaired individuals encounter substantial challenges, ranging from limited access to information and educational resources to obstacles in daily life, resulting in very low Braille literary rates [1]–[2]. Tragically, social isolation and discrimination have terrible consequences, with 40% of blind children not surviving past the age of five. Our proposed device facilitates Braille reading and writing with audio support, offering features like document reading, Braille-to-text conversion, and bilingual language support. Unlike traditional piezo-electric-based displays that consume excessive power for character generation through dynamic slot actuation, the solenoid-based approach significantly reduces power consumption while offering mechanical reliability and portability for users. Crucially, the device provides an affordable and economical solution to these challenges.
