Design a UWB Antenna with Band Notch Characteristics for MIMO Applications

This paper presents a rectangular shape ultra-wideband (UWB) two elements multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna. The proposed antenna design is simulated and verified through two software Ansys HFSS and CST Studio Suite. The simulation result shows that the proposed antenna offers an impedance bandwidth of 111.4% from 3.3 GHz to 11.6 GHz. To mitigate the effect of WLAN (5.15 – 5.875 GHz) a U-shaped slot is etched at the center of the radiator. Further, in order to enhance the isolation a stub (decoupler) is inserted between MIMO elements. It is found that isolation is significantly improved through the entire frequency band. The MIMO parameters like ECC, DG, MEG, and CCL are also analyzed and all are found within acceptable limits. Further, an electrical equivalent circuit of the proposed antenna is designed using ADS software.
