Role of CSI in Short Packet Communication for Rayleigh Fading Z Interference Channel

With emergence of new wireless applications such as machine-to-machine and ultra-reliable communication, there has been increased interest in development of theory for short packet communication. In multi-user scenarios, users can have varied knowledge of channel state information (CSI) and this brings new challenges to ensure reliability under short packet communication. This work considers a two-user Rayleigh faded Gaussian Z-interference channel, where the transmitter which causes interference has perfect CSI of its direct channel. The work characterizes achievable throughput for this model in case of treating interference as noise and successive interference cancellation (SIC) schemes under reliability constraint at the receiver which does not experience any interference. The work demonstrates how reliability requirement of one user affects the performance of other user.
