Modified Lookup Table for Reduced Torque Ripple in a Direct Torque Controlled PMSM Drive

One of the most intriguing high-performance control approaches used today is Direct Torque Control (DTC) for variable speed drives. For several applications, permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) are gradually taking the place of induction motors (IMs) because of their advantageous qualities, especially their increased effectiveness and small size. DTC controlled PMSM drive employs dual hysteresis controllers and a selection mechanism, such as a switching table, to determine the optimal voltage vector for satisfying torque and flux criteria. Disadvantages of a DTC system are the presence of undesirable fluctuations in torque and flux, as well as the issue of varying switching frequencies. In this paper, analysis of integral sliding mode controller (ISMC) and the super-twisting sliding mode controller (STSMC) has been presented for torque ripple reduction. This paper also illustrates the use of a unique converter switching table for the reduction of torque ripple.
