Auotomatic Railway Track Crack Detection and Alert System

For both long-distance and suburban traffic, railroads offer the least expensive and most practical form of passenger transportation. In addition, India's railway system handles most of the country's carriers. The main issue about railway track crossings and undetected cracks in Indian railway tracks is still accidents. Approximately 60% accidents happen at railway crossings and also due to rail track fracture, which costs both valuable lives and money. Therefore, it is necessary to consider new technology that is reliable, effective, and steady for detection on railway tracks. This project's primary goal is to develop a successful functioning prototype that can detect the railway track cracks utilizing LIDAR sensors, employing a dynamic approach that integrates GPS tracking and WIFI modules to transmit alert messages along with the geographical coordinates of the location. An Arduino Uno is employed to manage and synchronize the functionalities of these devices. LIDAR, a remote sensing technique, measures distance by analyzing the time-of-flight (TOF) of unmodulated narrow light pulse echoes reflected from the target.
