Partial Discharge Performance Analysis of Carbon Quantum Dots Modified Mineral Oil

Mineral oil is commonly used as an insulating medium in power transformers and other high-voltage equipment. It exhibits good insulating properties and provides cooling for the equipment. However, over time, mineral oil can undergo ageing processes due to factors such as temperature, oxidation, and contamination, which can affect its performance and electrical properties. CQD-SiO

(Carbon Quantum Dot-Silicon Dioxide) is a compound containing quantum dots (QDs) embedded in a silicon dioxide (SiO
2
) matrix. These quantum dots subsist nanoscale semiconducting particles that can exhibit unique electrical and optical properties. When mineral oil is used as an insulating medium in conjunction with CQD-SiO
2
nanoparticles, the ageing process can affect the partial discharge characteristics which in turn reduces the efficiency. Partial discharge (PD) is the portion of the discharge that occurs in electrical insulating materials. This paper investigates the partial discharge (PD) characteristics by changing the concentration of carbon quantum dots (CQDs- Sio
2
) in mineral oil.
