Power System Improvements at a Century-Old Paper Mill

The paper mill in North Carolina operates four paper machines and has been producing paper for over a century. Six in-house, turbine-generators provide a share of the electrical power to the four paper machines while also providing steam for the paper-making process. A power system study completed in 2015 identified several areas where improvements could be made in the reliability and safety of the mill auxiliary power system Burnette et al. (2017). This paper covers the work necessary to update the mill power system study for the latest round of improvements.
