An Equal Area Fundamental Control of Hybrid Thirteen-Level Solar Photovoltaic Converter for Medium Voltage Applications

This paper presents a new solar multilevel structure that uses a hybrid combination of a cross-connected converter and modified H bridge cell. In total, six PV sources are used with two PV arrays for cross-connected cell and four PV arrays in two modified H bridge cells. The six steps are obtained in the positive and negative side, which ensures better voltage THD than two-level converter. Topological analysis of new converter is done in terms of working mode and switching states. It is further implemented for grid tied system with equal area fundamental control (EAFC). EAFC modulates a hybrid converter with the online calculation of angles, which depends on height of intersection, modulation index. and area under the modulating/carrier signal. The closed-loop control is done EAM-based fundamental switching. The system performance is tested in steady-state and dynamic conditions. Results demonstrate the ability of new hybrid configuration to transfer megawatt scale power in grid.
