Generator of High-Power Microsecond Rectangular Pulses Based on Reverse Switching Dynistors

The possibility of efficient use of reverse switching dynistors (RSDs) in the mode of switching high-power rectangular current pulses with a sub-microsecond front is demonstrated. A high-voltage generator based on a block of small-sized series-connected RSDs has been developed. The output current of the generator is 4 kA, the pulse duration is 7 μs, the current rise rate is 4 kA/μs. With natural cooling, the generator is capable to operate at a repetition rate of 100 Hz. The results obtained make it possible to develop high-voltage power supply systems for klystrons and magnetrons based on RSDs and a step-up transformer, capable of switching power of tens of MW at repetition rates of hundreds of Hz.
