Alleviation of Power Loss and Voltage Drop by Integrating Capacitor and PV Systems in Radial Distribution Network: An Impact Analysis

Power losses and significant voltage drops can be reduced by integrating shunt capacitors into Radial Distribution Networks (RDN). Furthermore, because Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) power penetration offers a competitive alternative to fossil fuel power plants in the existing decontrolled electricity system, it also contributes to lowering distribution losses, enhancing distributor voltage profile, reducing substation load, etc. However, growing SPV penetration causes issues concerning protection, reverse power flow, voltage rises, etc. PV systems and capacitors should be distributed appropriately to reap the benefits, such as a superior voltage profile and lower power losses. The purpose of the paper is to look into the impact of shunt capacitors and SPV penetration. In order to calculate voltage variation and power loss for a radial distribution network, load flow analysis is done both with and without SPV and shunt capacitor penetration simultaneously. For the sake of analysis, various cases have been taken into consideration. The findings showed that for voltage profile and low power loss parameters, distributed SPV with the shunt capacitor injection excelled concentrated SPV penetration.
