Modelling of Micro-Optical Ring Resonator as an Optical Filter with a 1×3 I/O Bus Waveguides

A micro-optical ring resonator (MORR) is developed here using four unsymmetrically connected rings with $(1\times 3)$ I/O ports that have been mathematically studied and analyzed in the Z-domain. The delay line technique and Mason’s gain formula are used to obtain the transfer functions for various output ports. The proposed model’s frequency response study is accomplished in MATLAB, and its performance parameters are also graphically presented. This proposed structure provides a wider FSR of 1.82 THz, 1.567 THz, and 1.53 THz at different ports with appreciable crosstalk. In optiFDTD, the suggested structure is then developed using the design parameters. The designed MORR’s frequency response is computed, and the results are compared with MATLAB’s results. Also, optiFDTD software is used to evaluate the proposed structure’s electric field distribution. The proposed architecture significantly improves the data processing capabilities of communication networks by inserting many communication channels through three output ports.
